Hi, my name is Jasper van Zaanen — the creature behind Cinematic Seconds. I’m a cinematographer and biologist based in Leiden, with over six years of experience in filmmaking and biology.
Cinematic Seconds specialises in capturing high-quality imagery for short films, feature productions and natural history films. With a background in both film production and biology, I bring a unique perspective to the screen — combining scientific curiosity with cinematic storytelling.
Whether it’s filming the powers of nature or building narrative-driven visuals, my focus has always been on telling meaningful stories and creating captivating experiences.

As a cinematographer I get very enthusiastic about succesfully capturing or creating majestic moments. My goal is to transfer my own emotions and experiences into cinematic seconds.

As a bestboy I am responsible for safely organising the logistical parts of the lighting department. Working as the second hand of the gaffer on set, in order to create stunning light set-ups.

1st Assistant Camera
As a 1st AC I love the technical challenge in supporting the director of photography. This process teaches me new methods and shows me new ideas to better convey a story.
